A different kind of chiropractic — and a different kind of result

If you’ve tried other types of treatment for your back, neck, or posture and found yourself back at square one, you’re not alone. Many people who come to see Lisa at Zest Chiropractic in Birmingham say the same thing. What often makes the difference is not just the treatment — it’s the approach. Lisa practises Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC™), a specialist method she’s found to deliver results that more general approaches often don’t.

What is ABC™?

Advanced Biostructural Correction is a method built around a simple but important insight: some bones in the spine and body shift out of position in directions the body cannot correct on its own.

This matters because when a bone shifts forward, there are no muscles positioned at the right angle to pull it back. The body can’t correct it — so instead, it compensates. It shifts weightbearing, recruits other muscles, and rearranges itself around the problem. Over time, these compensations build up, creating the tension, restriction, and discomfort that many people live with for years.

ABC™ works by identifying and correcting these specific misalignments — in a precise, systematic sequence. Once the underlying issue is addressed, the body no longer needs to compensate around it, and those accumulated layers of tension can begin to unwind.

How is it different from other chiropractic methods?

Many chiropractic techniques focus on areas that are stiff, painful, or restricted — working on the joints that feel most problematic. This can bring welcome relief, and it’s genuinely helpful for many people.

What ABC™ does differently is work on the cause rather than the compensation. Many of the joints that feel tight or painful are actually compensating — they’re working hard to hold the body together around a structural problem elsewhere. Treating those areas in isolation can feel good temporarily, but may not produce lasting change.

ABC™ follows a specific protocol: identifying exactly which bones have shifted in ways the body cannot self-correct, and addressing them in order. This is why many people who have received chiropractic care before — or tried physiotherapy or osteopathy — find that ABC™ produces a noticeably different experience.

What might people notice as their care progresses?

Every person’s experience is different. Lisa will always give you a realistic picture based on your specific situation. That said, among the things patients at Zest most commonly mention as their care progresses are:

  • A sense of standing taller or feeling less ‘hunched’
  • Reduced tension through the back, neck and shoulders
  • Greater ease of movement and less general stiffness
  • Feeling less tired after normal daily activities
  • Less discomfort over time, particularly with things that would previously have flared things up

These are things Lisa hears regularly from her patients. They’re also part of why she has been practising ABC™ for over 10 years — and why it remains the cornerstone of what she does at Zest.

Why Lisa switched to ABC™ — and why she’s never looked back

Lisa didn’t start out practising ABC™. For the first ten years of her career, she practiced diversified chiropractic — one of the most widely taught and commonly practised approaches in the profession. It served her patients well, but something changed when she attended her first ABC™ seminar.

A fellow chiropractor and close friend was also attending. Over the course of the weekend, Lisa watched her friend’s posture visibly change — in real time, in front of her eyes. The shift was clear and dramatic. It was the kind of change Lisa had never seen happen before, in ten years of practice.

She went home and ran through the ABC™ protocol on her husband. She took photographs before and after. The difference was impossible to miss — his posture had changed noticeably, in a single session. In a decade of practising chiropractic, she’d never been able to produce results like that.

That was the moment she decided to switch. She’s been practising ABC™ ever since.

“I’d been a chiropractor for ten years. I thought I knew what good results looked like. Then I saw ABC™ in action and realised there was a whole other level of change possible. The before and after photographs of my husband said everything. I’ve never looked back.”

What conditions might ABC™ help with?

ABC™ is particularly suited to musculoskeletal complaints — those involving muscles, joints and spine. The kinds of things that bring people to see Lisa include:

Back pain & back ache

General, non-injury-related back pain is one of the most common reasons people come to see Lisa, whether it’s persistent or comes and goes.

Neck pain & stiffness

A persistent tightness or restricted movement in the neck and upper shoulders that doesn’t seem to shift, even with rest..

Headaches coming from the neck

Headaches that seem to start at the base of the skull or travel upward are often linked to how the upper spine is positioned.

Poor posture & spinal health

Rounded shoulders, a forward head position, or a general sense that your body is ‘out of line’ are often structural issues ABC™ is well suited to address.

General muscle tension & stiffness

Feeling restricted or unable to move as freely as you used to — especially through the back, hips, and neck.

Shoulder pain & restricted movement

Tension or limited range of movement in the shoulders, particularly when connected to how you’re holding your upper body.

If you’re not sure whether your issue is something ABC™ might help with, the free call with Lisa is the ideal place to start. She’ll listen, ask the right questions, and give you an honest view.

What to expect when you see Lisa

  1. A conversation first. Before anything else, Lisa listens. She’ll want to understand what you’ve been experiencing, how long it’s been going on, what you’ve already tried, and what impact it’s having on your day-to-day life.
  2. A thorough physical assessment. Using specialised chiropractic, orthopaedic and neurological tests Lisa will assess posture, spinal alignment, range of movement, muscle tension, joint mobility and nerve function.
  3. A clear picture of what she finds. Lisa will explain what she’s found in plain language, what she believes is driving your symptoms, and whether she thinks ABC™ is a good fit for you. If she doesn’t think she can help, she’ll tell you that too.
  4. Care that progresses at your pace. ABC™ is a progressive method — each session builds on the last. Lisa reviews your progress regularly and adjusts your plan as things change. She won’t recommend more sessions than she genuinely believes are in your interest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is ABC™ painful?

Most people find ABC™ comfortable. The method is precise and uses careful positioning rather than heavy force. After a session, some people notice a mild achiness — similar to how you might feel after exercise — as the body begins to adjust. Lisa will talk you through exactly what to expect before she does anything.

It depends on what type of chiropractic technique you’ve had before. What ABC™ does differently is work on bones that are out of position in a way that your body cannot correct itself, rather than on the compensations that happen because of them. Most corrections are done in a standing, or seated position, and the direction of the movement is front to back, not twisting. For people who’ve tried other approaches, this is often what feels different. The free call is a good place to start if you’d like Lisa’s honest view on your particular situation.

No, ABC™ is not appropriate in every situation. Lisa will take a full case history and assess your suitability before recommending care. If she doesn’t think it’s the right approach for you, she will tell you — and, where possible, suggest who might be better placed to help.
