Is your posture quietly wearing you down?
Poor posture rarely happens overnight — and for most people, it’s not something they think about until it starts to show. If that sounds familiar, Lisa at Zest Chiropractic in Birmingham would love to hear from you.
You’ve noticed it — but you’re not sure what to do
Perhaps your shoulders have started to round forward, or your head seems to sit further in front of your body than it used to. Maybe you feel achy by mid-afternoon, or you catch a glimpse of yourself in a window and think, “when did I start standing like that?”
These are things that many of Lisa’s patients mention during their very first conversation. You’re far from alone — and noticing is often the first step toward feeling genuinely better.
Why does posture matter?
How your body holds itself upright has a direct relationship with how your muscles, joints, and spine feel day to day. When your structure isn’t balanced, your body works harder to keep you upright — which over time can contribute to fatigue, tension and discomfort that seems to come from nowhere.
At Zest Chiropractic, Lisa looks at your whole body picture, not just the area that hurts. Understanding what’s causing your symptoms is where every care plan begins.
Do any of these sound familiar?
These are some of the complaints that bring people through the door at our Moseley chiropractic clinic.
Back ache & back pain
General, non-injury-related back pain is one of the most common things Lisa helps with — whether it’s persistent or comes and goes.
Neck pain & stiffness
A feeling of constant tightness in the neck and upper shoulders that doesn’t shift, even after rest.
Headaches coming from the neck
Headaches that seem to start at the base of the skull or travel upwards from the neck are often linked to how the upper spine is positioned.
General muscle tension & stiffness
Feeling tight or restricted — like you can’t move as freely as you used to — especially through the back, hips, and neck.
Shoulder pain & restricted movement
Tension or limited range of movement in the shoulders, particularly where it’s connected to how you’re holding your upper body.
Fatigue from everyday activities
Feeling tired after standing, walking, or sitting for normal lengths of time can relate to how much effort your body is putting into keeping you upright.
How Lisa approaches posture problems
- Listen first
Before anything else, Lisa takes time to understand what you’re experiencing — how long it’s been going on, what makes it better or worse and what impact it’s having on your daily life. Every person’s picture is different and she wants to understand yours.
- Thorough assessment
Using over 20 years of experience, Lisa assesses how your whole body is holding itself — looking at where the structure may have lost the mechanical advantage it needs to support you efficiently, from your feet up to your head.
- Address the cause, not just the symptom
Using Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC™), Lisa focuses on specific structural positions the body cannot correct by itself. When these are addressed, many of the compensations your body has been making — and the discomfort that comes with them — can begin to ease naturally.
- Regular progress reviews
Patients often notice changes in how their body feels and how they’re standing as their care progresses. Lisa reviews your progress regularly and adjusts your plan to match where you are on your journey.
You can find out more about what to expect on our dedicated guide page.
“The most common thing people tell me is that they thought their pain, or poor posture was just something they had to live with. For most people, it really doesn’t have to be.”
— Lisa Archer, GCC Registered Chiropractor & ABC™ Practitioner
What is Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC™)?
ABC™ is the treatment method Lisa uses at Zest Chiropractic. It’s built around a key insight: some bones in the spine shift forward in ways the body cannot correct on its own, because there are no muscles in a position to pull them back.
Rather than working on every joint that hurts, ABC™ focuses specifically on identifying and correcting these forward bones — in a precise, systematic sequence. Once addressed, the body no longer needs to compensate around them, and the layers of tension and restriction that have built up over time can begin to unwind.
Many patients notice a feeling of ease, reduced tension and a sense of “standing taller” as their care progresses. Lisa sees this with her patients regularly — it’s one of the reasons she’s passionate about this approach after 20+ years in practice.
Results vary between individuals. Lisa will always assess your specific situation before recommending any course of care.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is chiropractic care right for my type of back pain or posture problem?
That depends on what’s driving it — which is exactly what an initial assessment is designed to find out. Chiropractic care is well suited to many types of general, non-injury-related back ache and back pain, as well as neck pain, headaches coming from the neck and related musculoskeletal discomfort. The free call is a great first step if you’re not sure.
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person depending on how long the issue has been present, your overall health, lifestyle and how your body responds to care. Lisa will give you a realistic, honest picture after your initial assessment — she won’t recommend more sessions than she genuinely believes are in your interest.
What does an ABC™ adjustment feel like?
Most people find it comfortable and many describe a sense of ease or feeling of “standing taller” afterwards. The technique is precise and uses careful positioning rather than heavy force. Lisa will explain exactly what to expect before she does anything.
Do I need a GP referral first?
No — you don’t need a referral to see a chiropractor. That said, if you have any serious symptoms such as pain following an accident, unexplained weight loss, or bowel or bladder changes alongside back pain, please see your GP before booking. Lisa always works alongside, not instead of, your wider healthcare team.
Where is Zest Chiropractic based?
We’re based in Moseley, Birmingham and regularly see patients from Kings Heath, Hall Green, Harborne, Edgbaston, and the wider South Birmingham area. Visit our contact page for directions.
