Lisa Archer, female chiropractor in Birmingham

Hi, I'm Lisa.

I’m the chiropractor at Zest Chiropractic in Moseley. My focus is to help you move, rest and live comfortably again, so you can feel more like yourself.

Some people feel more at ease seeing a female chiropractor. If that’s you, you’re in the right place.

Who I see

Who do you usually see?

The people who walk through my door almost always spend their lives looking after everyone else. They tend to find themselves in one of two places:

You're juggling everything

Work, kids, ageing parents and a diary with no gaps in it. You keep going because everyone needs you to.

First it’s skipping the gym. Then it’s cancelling plans. Then you’re snapping at people and you’re not even sure why.

You've finally got time for you

The garden, long walks and the grandchildren. Only pain and stiffness keep getting in the way.

The walk gets a bit shorter. The garden waits another week. Before long you’re saying no more than yes.

Pain rarely stops you all at once. It just quietly makes your world smaller.

The most common reasons people come to see me are back pain, neck pain, sciatica and headaches.

When you carry pain for a long time, it can change how you move. You start favouring one side or holding yourself differently, often without noticing. Over time, other areas can start to ache or feel stiff too. That’s why I look at your whole body, not just the part that hurts.

Your first visit

What happens when I come in?

Starting chiropractic can feel daunting, especially when you’ve been quietly pushing through for a long time. That’s why I keep appointments calm, unhurried and relaxed.

  1. A free callA relaxed, no-obligation chat. If I don’t think chiropractic is right for you, I’ll say so.
  2. Your first appointment, 70 minutesTime to hear the whole story, examine you and explain what’s going on and why.
  3. Your planI’ll give my recommendations, then you decide what you’d like to go ahead with.

How I work

What is ABC™ chiropractic like?

For around my first ten years I used diversified chiropractic. Then I trained in Advanced Biostructural Correction (ABC™), and I’ve worked this way for over a decade.

ABC™ is a gentle method that looks at how your whole body works together. Adjustments are done upright, in sitting and standing positions.

I take a steady, step-by-step approach so you feel comfortable and well looked after. I’m one of two chiropractors in Birmingham offering ABC™ – and the only one who’s female.

“Better” looks different for everyone. For one person it’s getting through the working day without stiffness. For another it’s a full morning in the garden. I want to know what it looks like for you, because that’s what we’ll work towards together.

My story

How did you get into chiropractic?

I didn’t start out as a chiropractor. I was a forensic scientist, and in 2000 I took a career break to go travelling in Australia. While I was there, I spent some time working at a forensic science centre in Melbourne. Lots of my colleagues saw a chiropractor and talked about it all the time, so I got curious.

One colleague couldn’t turn her head properly, so I went along to one of her appointments. Watching the adjustments, and seeing how much more she could move afterwards, amazed me. That was it. I came home and changed career.

I trained at the Welsh Institute of Chiropractic at the University of Glamorgan (now the University of South Wales) and graduated in 2005 with a first class BSc (Hons) in Chiropractic.

The official bit

Are you properly qualified?

Yes, in the UK, only people on the General Chiropractic Council register can call themselves chiropractors. I’ve been GCC-registered since 2005 (registration number 02532), I have 20 years’ experience and I follow the GCC’s Code.

People come to see me from across south Birmingham, including Moseley, Kings Heath, Hall Green, Edgbaston, Harborne and Stirchley.
